It seems that false eyelashes and mascara are not enough anymore! Celebrities have blazed a trail for more outlandish, or glamorous looks by opting for eyelash extensions, which has inevitably resulted in a demand for such treatments by women who want enjoy these looks. It's all about the lashes.......
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are applied in salons by specially trained (and insured) therapists such as our Sabrina. Individual synthetic lashes are carefully bonded to existing lashes and therefore this a a somewhat lengthy process where a full set of 80-100 lashes can take an hour and a half. Alternatively, you can opt for a half set, which gives a more natural look.
A patch test will be required 48 hours prior to the treatment to ensure there is no reaction to the lashes or glue. The consultation will also enable you to discuss what type of "look" you want to select the most appropriate lash-type.
During the treatment your eyes will be closed and protective pads placed under your eyelids - you shouldn't feel any pain.
How long do they last
The main thing to appreciate is that the natural eyelashes will fall out continuously on a 6-8 week cycle - it follows that extensions can therefore on last the same time, not the 12 weeks or more that some salons suggest. You are likely to lose around 12-15 lashes every 2-3 weeks, which is why touch-up appointments are advisable if you want to maintain the "look".
Within the first 24 hours when the glue is still setting, do not touch your lashes, or get them wet. Once set, you won't need mascara! If you use any products on or near the lashes, please ensure they are oil-free.
